Technology Dependence

I think technology has had a major effect on my life., as well as everybody else’s There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t use my phone or computer to make phone calls, text message, check emails, check the weather, look up something online, watch videos, play games, and all sorts of other things. The very first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is grab hold of my phone to check for messages or emails. It’s too important to not check, in case there’s some kind of emergency with a family member or friend, or class-related messages. I don’t find dependence on technology to be an issue if there are legitimate reasons for using it. There is nothing wrong with using it for work, school/college work, or communication with family. But, using technology purely for entertainment 100% of the time is an issue. Watching videos from youtube or playing video games or constantly scrolling through posts on twitter or Facebook or other social media is stupid in my eyes. While I don’t think I could completely shut out usage of technology, I could definitely limit myself to necessary use. I use computer programs for my classes, so I definitely need to use computers and other technology for school work. I take physics and engineering classes that require me to work with complicated technological equipment, and since I am trying to get a job as an engineer, there’s no escaping from it. I can see how some people can become mind slaves to technology, but moderate use doesn’t hurt anybody. If anything technology has allowed humans to advance very far in recent centuries, and our evolution is increasing exponentially. So, I don’t think I could turn off social media, video games, cell phones, television, and other technologies because they’re just too important. They don’t prevent me from accomplishing anything in my life. If used in moderation of both work and entertainment, technology and social medias can be a good thing. They can connect people from around the world, who otherwise, would never be able to get into contact one another. Anyway, this is my view on technology dependence, maybe others feel the same way I do.
